IFLA Europe Launches ‚People in Rural Landscapes‘ Photo Competition

We are excited to announce that IFLA Europe and its Agricultural Landscapes Working Group have launched a new photo competition titled ‚People in Rural Landscapes‘! This competition, starting in April 2024, invites participants to capture the essence of rural life and the vital role of people in these landscapes.

Rural landscapes are rich with history and function, serving as the transitional zones between urban sprawl and natural environments. They are crucial for food production, ecosystem services, and the overall development of cities. According to the European Commission, rural areas encompass 83% of the EU’s territory and are home to nearly one-third of its population.

Agricultural landscapes in Europe are diverse, featuring farms, mobility networks, nature pockets, villages, tourism activities, and more. Despite the shift from primary agricultural activities to other sectors, these landscapes remain essential. The competition aims to highlight the ongoing importance and dynamic nature of rural life, as well as the challenges faced by these communities.
